The Philips Sports Association was officially founded on August 31, 1913, as an association for and by Philips employees.

It is the end of a big Philips sports festival to celebrate 100 years of Dutch independence. Several sports can be practiced. Soccer is one of them.

Three years earlier, on December 12, 1910, the foundation was laid for what would become the current PSV Eindhoven. Employees of Philips then founded the Philips Elftal.

On Sunday, January 15, 1911, the team played its first match against Hollandia from Woensel. The then five-year-old Frits Philips made the kick-off of this match.

The field was on a piece of wasteland at Frederiklaan that was donated to the team by Philips. That location is the same place where Philips Stadium now stands.

After this match, the team also played a series of games against EVV Eindhoven, among others, in 1911. After the second team was defeated 1-0 and 4-3, EVV had the first team play the next four matches. EVV won all these four matches.

In the 1911/1912 season, the Philips Elftal was classified in the second class B of the Brabantse Voetbalbond.

In the following season, they also played competition, but many matches were not played due to lack of money.

It is not sure, but the reason was a disagreement between the leader of the eleven team committee who, being a board member of a trade union, clashed with Anton Philips.

Even after winning the European Cup final, PSV remained a top club. With players like Romaria, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben and Philip Cocu, great successes were achieved.

Unfortunately, a European victory did not materialize. In the 2004-2005 season, PSV almost reached the final of the Champions League.

However, AC Milan proved to be an obstacle due to an away goal by Ambrossini. From 2004 onwards, PSV became national champions four times in a row. Only in 2015 did the team from Brabant win that title again.

The Philips soccer team has its unique image. Moreover, its graphic sign does not overlap with the parent company’s identity elements – it is based on individual PSV symbols.

These include the red and white stripes on the players’ uniforms and the triangular pennant with the abbreviated club name. The oval shield is considered classic – it has been used since 1933.

In the early 90s, designers developed a new font for “PSV”. Its characteristic feature is rectangular serifs directed in different directions.

At the same time, the letters and numbers of the inscription “EST 1913” have no serifs.

The primary colors of the logo are red and white. They are also presented on the uniform of the soccer players.

The official club palette was chosen by Jan-Willem Hofkes, who noticed how well a white notepad and a red raspberry drink work together. In addition, some elements are black and gold.
