In 1955, the bringing basketball franchise ideas to the city of Portland was born, but it was not until 1970 that the dream was fulfilled, and the Trail Blazers were born.
The name took inspiration from the book The Trail Blazers: The Story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, whose expedition ended very close to Portland, Oregon.

The letters “P” and “T” were made with serifs, small lines at a 45-degree angle. As one of the Blazers players explains, this refers to the 45th parallel running north through Salem, Oregon. The inscription “Trail Blazers” is below the city’s name.
