2019 marked the 150th season of North American professional baseball, an anniversary that enriched the value of the title put up for grabs in October in the World Series won by Washington after a long time.

One hundred and fifty years of professional baseball have been counted since the first team, the Cincinnati Reds, in 1869. Seven years later, the first professional league, the National League.

The current Major League Baseball was born in 1903 from the union of the National League with the other league founded in the meantime, the American League.

There is no doubt that the New York Yankees are the best team in this century and a half of professional baseball. They hold all the major league records by detachment.

They have won their division 18 times, the league finals 40 times, and the World Series 27 times, sixteen more than the second most successful team, the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Yankees’ victories are also linked to some of the greatest players, such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Yogi Berra, who have become part of American culture and are therefore known even to those who do not know baseball.

The franchise’s history spans about 120 years. The Yankees began their American League career in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles. In 1903, the club was renamed the New York Highlanders.

Sportswriters coined the Yankees moniker for the club in 1904, as it was easier to fit into headlines. In 1913, after the team changed ownership and moved to New York, the club officially got its current name: New York Yankees.

In the early 1970s, the Yankees were a mid-range team; however, 1973 saw significant changes for the team.

It was purchased by a famous American shipbuilder George Steinbrenner, who owned the franchise until he died in 2010. His 37-year ownership was the longest, most productive, and profitable in the club’s history.

In fact, during that time, the Yankees won seven World Series. Today, the team is owned by Yankee Global Enterprises, LLC, which the late George Steinbrenner family runs.

The team played their host games in their stadium from 1923 to 1973 and from 1976 to 2008. In 2009, the couple moved to a new ballpark called Yankee Stadium.

The old facility was closed and subsequently demolished. The construction cost was $2.3 billion, with $1.2 billion in taxpayer subsidies.

Yankee Stadium dominates on the list of the most expensive and salvaged stadiums ever. The Yankees are one of the most outstanding teams in the sport’s history, whose home and away games are visited by billions of spectators.
