On September 23, 1944, the rival clubs Olympique Lillois and Sporting Club Fivois merged after long and heated negotiations.
The club was first named Stade Lillois. Then on November 10, 1944, in memory of Olympique Lillois and Sporting Club Fivois, the name Lille Olympique Sporting Club was adopted after a general meeting of former representatives of the two clubs.
Today, the club evolves at the highest national level: League 1 and presents one of the most beautiful French Palmares:
On the other hand, there was no victory in the League Cup despite an accession to the final in 2016, which was lost against Paris Saint-Germain.
Since 1944, LOSC has occupied five stadiums as a resident club. They are Stade Jules-Lemaire, Henri-Jooris Stadium, Grimonprez-Jooris Stadium, Lille Metropole Stadium, and Pierre-Mauroy Stadium (Grand Stade).
The attendance record for a home game in Lille of LOSC was achieved in its current stadium with 49,712 people for the match LOSC vs. Paris Saint-Germain in April 2019.
Lille holds the total attendance record for a “home” league match with 78,056 spectators. On March 7, 2009, against Olympique Lyonnais, LOSC played some of its games at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, near Paris.
Note that the tremendous local rival of LOSC, RC Lens, founded in 1906, has a lesser record than Lille: 1 French Championship (1998), 1 League Cup (1999), 4 French Division 2 Championships (1937, 1949, 1973, and 2009), 3 Gambardella Cups (1957, 1958 and 1992) and 1 Intertoto Cup (2005).
