On January 17, 1982, Wade was born to JoLinda Wade and Dwyane Wade Sr. in Chicago, U.S.A. Dwyane has two stepbrothers and an older brother, Tragil Wade, whom he credits for pointing him in the right direction.

Dwyane Wade played soccer and basketball in high school. He attended Harold L. Richards High School in Oak Lawn, Chicago. He did much better in soccer as a wide receiver than in basketball initially.
