“Passover” is the name of the Jewish feast commemorating the exodus from Egypt. According to the Gospels, it was during this Jewish feast that the resurrection of Jesus took place; that is why the name was retaken to designate the Christian Feast.
The Hebrew word gives in Latin Pascha from which the French word derives after amuïssement of the s and replacement of aces by an â with a circumflex accent.
The form “Orthodox Passover” is used to designate this holiday in the Orthodox Churches. For other churches, this form is aged, and the way with “s” is preferred.
