Despite being one of the youngest teams in the NBA, the Pelicans were home to current NBA stars, ranging from Chris Paul to Zion Williamson, Anthony Davis.
The New Orleans Pelicans were founded in 2002 and initially had New Orleans Hornets.
Due to the Hurricane Katrina effects on the city, the Pelicans had to temporarily relocate to Oklahoma, where they played a couple of seasons from 2005 to 2007. As of 2013, the New Orleans team was named the Pelicans.
In that time, the Pelicans have not won an NBA title, and their highest Playoff reach was making it to the Conference Semifinals a couple of times, where they fell to the Spurs 4-3 in 2008 and the Warriors 4-1 in 2018.
The Smoothie King Center in New Orleans has been the home of the Pelicans since their years as Hornets. This venue was inaugurated in 1999, and during the time of Hurricane Katrina, it served to support the victims. On basketball nights, this arena has a capacity of 16,867 fans.
The Pelicans have one retired jersey, Pete Maravich’s number 7, due to his legacy with the New Orleans Jazz. Some other figures who wore the New Orleans jersey are Chris Paul, Baron Davis, DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, and currently, they have Zion Williamson as their central star. Mexican Gustavo Ayon also played in New Orleans.
The New Orleans Pelicans have in Anthony Davis their top star, mainly because after selecting him in the 2012 Draft, the franchise changed its name from Hornets.

Interestingly, the first preseason game of Anthony Davis’ career was in Mexico when the Hornets faced the Magic in Mexico City.
In December 2012, the club announced it would change its name to Pelicans. The rebranding allowed the club to separate itself from the franchise in Charlotte and move to New Orleans.
The Hornets nickname returned to its historical homeland and became the basis for another team of the same name. The New Orleans Pelicans debuted in the 2013-2014 season, with a redesigned logo entirely different from the retro versions.
Dark blue, gold, red and white colors have become the new colors. In addition, Pelican has become the symbol of the basketball team.
