The first trace of a predecessor franchise of the Minnesota-based team is in Kansas City, wherein in 1894, the Kansas City Blues were founded as a member of the Western League.

When the American League declared itself a major league in 1901 in direct competition with the National League, the new circuit moved the Kansas City franchise from the Western League to Washington.

It is a city abandoned by the old National League a year earlier (between 1891 and 1899, the league had a team with the same name but no relation to the team whose story we tell).

Washington’s new club, like the old one, was called the Senators (the second of three franchises to have the same name). The Washington franchise was part of the eight founding currencies of the American League.

The team’s first manager was Jim Manning, and under his leadership, the team from the nation’s capital finished sixth in the league’s first tournament, accumulating a record of 61 wins, 72 losses, and five tied games.

On Friday, April 26, 1901, their first challenge was when they visited Columbia Park, home of the Philadelphia Athletics, whom they defeated 5×1.

The first stadium where the Washington team played was the American League Park I.

The club has now switched to a version based on the classic rondel: a transparent circle with a wide stripe, trim, and a central ring housing the main element.

The developers installed a baseball with two stripes in the characteristic herringbone pattern in the middle to indicate a sporty approach.

This is followed by two inscriptions: “Minnesota” at the top and “Baseball Club” at the bottom. They are completing all the borderlines: blue and white.

The word “Twins,” denoting the original team name, runs horizontally across the ball. It is executed in dark red with lower shadows making the letter convex.

The letters “T” and “s” extend outside the inner circle, giving the Minnesota Twins emblem a stylistically consistent appearance. This logo was adopted in 2010.

In the first seasons of the team’s stay in Washington, there was a peculiar situation with their naming.

They debuted in the league in 1901 as the Washington Senators. In 1905, the team changed its official name to the Washington Nationals.

The name “Nationals” appeared on the uniforms for only two seasons and then replaced the “W” logo for the next 52 years.

However, the shorter “Senators,” “Nationals,” and “Nats” names were used interchangeably by fans and the media throughout the team’s 60 years in the nation’s capital.

Upon being relocated to Minnesota beginning with the 1961 season, the franchise is renamed the Minnesota Twins. The name “Twins” is derived from the popular name of the region, the Twin Cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul).

As previously in 1960, the NBA team Minneapolis Lakers had moved to Los Angeles due to poor attendance caused by the reluctance of fans in St. Paul to support the team.

The owner of the now Twins Calvin Griffith was determined not to condition the support of either city, so his original desire was to name the team as the “Twin Cities Twins”,

However, in the face of MLB’s refusal, Griffith named the team the Minnesota Twins. The group, however, was allowed to keep its original “TC” (Twin Cities) for their caps.
