Durant, the full name Kevin Wayne Durant, was born on September 29, 1988, in Washington D.C., United States. His position is small forward and is characterized by his excellent mid-range shooting.
Since he was a child, he felt a great attraction for sports and basketball. In 2005 he played the USA Today national championship with Oak Hill Academy.
That same year, Durant transferred to Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Maryland. He became the all-time leader with that team and was named Washington Post Player of the Year.
By 2007, the young player was one of the best nationally, receiving the Oscar Robertson Trophy and Adolph F. Rupp Trophy awards. Shortly after that, he was recognized with the Naismith Award and the John R. Wooden Award six days later.
In the 2007 draft, the Seattle Sounders were selected, who would move on and change their name to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Durant had 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists, winning the Rookie of the Year award.
For 2009 he was the best scorer of the NBA season and invited to the All-Star Weekend, the NBA All-Star Game. His excellent treatment with the public and the press earned him the Magic Johnson Award.
By 2010, his quality and importance were out of the question when he went to the Basketball World Cup in Turkey with the United States and won it.
And that wasn’t all: Durant was chosen as MVP (Most Valuable Player). A couple of years later, he attended the 2012 London Olympics with the United States National Team, winning the gold medal.
However, luck did not smile on Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder at the team level, who lost the NBA Finals to LeBron James’ Miami Heat.
In 2014, the Oklahoma City Thunder lost again in the Finals to the San Antonio Spurs. In 2016, Kevin Durant became a free agent and signed for the Golden State Warriors, taking many by surprise.
That summer, the player’s quality was again on display when he commanded his country’s National Team to win gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Upon his return, he gave the Warriors an NBA title in 2017 by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Said title, the first for Durant in his pro career, was dedicated to his mother, Wanda Pratt, offering a speech in her honor in which he thanked her for all her efforts throughout his life.
Also, in that series against the Cavs, Durant was elected MVP. Finally, Kevin could celebrate a title denied to him for several years.
A year later, the Warriors again lifted an NBA title and defeated the Cavaliers with a crushing 4-0 in the series.
There is a reason why Durant wears the number 35: Charles Craig, his first coach at the age of 8, and a sort of adoptive father died of a bullet at the age of 35 while trying to stop a street fight, which is why Durant chose 35 in honor of Craig’s era.
